How to check for homework
We no longer have assignment books so it is important for you to talk with your child about making sure they write down assignments. I write all assignments on my weebly page daily under homework. Of course there may be a time when something happens and it is not posted for one reason or another so your child still needs to know what their assignment is. If remembering their assignments is difficult for them you may want to look into getting them some type of planner to use. Checking grades is important It is important for you and your child to check HAC weekly in order to see your child's progress. I tend to post my grades for math daily and ELA that day or the next. I do accept late work. However, If this becomes a regular thing, your child will not be able to have the opportunity to use this option. We will then have a talk about organizing themselves and using their time wisely. |
My grading procedures and how I deal with late and missing work
When it comes to homework I am very good at reminding the children about their assignments before they leave class as well as stated above, I place it on my nightly weebly. I do understand that things do occasionally pop up and an assignment may be forgotten. I accept late work without taking points off as long as the student informs me what happened and how they are going to accomplish the missing assignment. The missing assignment is to be complete on the students time not class time during instruction. For chronic missing work I will meet with the student and we will come up with a plan on how to remember our assignments. If this does not help the situation a call or message home along with points being deducted will be a result.
When a student is absent they can look at the weebly page to check what was accomplished that day in school. If a paper was handed out they can pick that up when they return. All other work could be started if they are up to it. They will have extra days to complete their missing work. It has never been difficult for a child to "catch" up. It is the students responsibility to gather all missing work from when they were absent from class. They will find all work, notes, and assignments in the absent file in the back of the room labeled ABSENT WORK.
Please read the BJHS standard information for school wide grading rules. I will be following these throughout the year.
